One-to-One HRT Program

In Vietnam, WWO has developed the One-to-One HRT Program which stands for 'Hieu Roi Thuong' in Vietnamese and means 'Understanding Through Compassion'.  Volunteers from the community, affectionately known as Aunties, work with the younger children one-to-one to provide the individual stimulation and support so necessary to healthy development. They work under the direction of a psychologist who holds regular meetings, discusses the needs of each child, offers techniques to assist the child, and designs strategies to move the child to the next developmental level.

The volunteers are paid a small stipend and are required to keep a journal documenting their children’s activities, growth and accomplishments.

For older children, there are Group HRT activities with both men and women volunteering from the community to support lifeskills and community integration activities with the children.
